The use of face masks becomes mandatory in Tijuana

In the wake of the pandemic, the decision was made to apply fines to those who do not use masks, ranging from 5 to 15 times according to the daily value of the Unit of Measurement and Update.

The Cabildo of Tijuana in the 42nd extraordinary session, approved the modification of articles of the Police and Government Bando with the purpose of sanctioning people who do not use face masks both in public streets and in establishments, malls, offices and public transportation units.

People who do not respect the safe distance or incorrectly use their mask will also be sanctioned, as well as the owners of commercial establishments who ignore the temperature measurement at the entranceof their business or do not comply with the sanitary protocols established by the health authorities.

Regarding infractions, these range from a warning by police authorities to a fine of thirty to fifty times the daily value of the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA), which in this year, 2021, will have a price of 89.62 Mexican pesos, it is worth mentioning that if the person has already been fined previously he will not be entitled to the application of the minimum amount of the fine. The ''exchange'' of the payment of the fine with community work may be allowed, in the same way only if the offender has not been previously warned.

After having returned to the red light a few weeks ago, Baja California registers close to 70% hospital occupation due to cases of COVID-19, and although this measure ended on January 10, the increase in patients with coronavirus are signs that the period will be extended.

Once announced by the health authorities, this measure will go into effect, which is why the population is asked to take extreme precautions and abide by each of the new rules imposed by the Tijuana Chapter.
