Pérez Rico warns about possible third wave of COVID-19 in Mexico
The Secretary of Health of Baja California mentioned that this third wave is "unfortunately inevitable".
During his daily update, Baja California's Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico, mentioned the possibility of a third wave of COVID-19 arriving in Mexico.
Without giving many details, Pérez Rico commented that this is something inevitable since to achieve the famous herd immunity, at least 60 percent of the population needs to be vaccinated.
However, he said that because Asia and Europe are more advanced in the experience of the first two waves of COVID-19, Mexico could go through the third wave with less intensity.
"The third wave is unfortunately inevitable because to have herd immunity you need to have 60 to 65 percent of your population covered with a vaccine. Mexico will surely experience the third wave. Let's remember that both Asia and Europe are months ahead of us in the waves that come from covid. We will probably have to deal with the third wave, but it will be much less intense than the one we are experiencing".
According to the head of the Ministry of Health of this entity, "the new normality includes the distancing and the use of face masks, until covid is a distant memory".
