Thanks to his dual nationality and the possibility of practicing in Tijuana and San Diego, Dr. Andres Smith became the first Mexican to receive the COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer.

Smith received the dose Friday at Sharp Hospital in Chula Vista where he works.

Pfizer's vaccine was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on December 11, allowing the American country's health sector personnel to be the first to be vaccinated against the current coronavirus.

The doctor is the director of the Emergency Department at Sharp Hospital and president of the board of directors of the Red Cross in Tijuana, so it could be said that he is also the first doctor in the border city to receive the vaccine.

Smith is expected to receive the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine in 21 days.

For their part, health sector workers in Mexico are expected to receive the vaccine between December 2020 and February 2021, according to the National Vaccination Policy against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, presented by the government of this country.
