2 drug smuggling attempts in Central California in under 24 hours

Border Patrol Agents stop drug smuggling

Today, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reports that Central California Border Patrol agents stopped two smuggling attempts in 24 hours.

The first attempt occurred this Monday at 11:00 p.m. on Highway 86. Inside a vehicle that stopped at the inspection area, a package wrapped in plastic in a sports suitcase was found, which contained methamphetamine and heroin.

The estimated weight of the methamphetamine is 4.6 pounds, with an estimated value of $10,350 dollars, and the estimated weight of the heroin is 77.5 grams, with an estimated value of $4,050 dollars.

The second smuggling attempt occurred Tuesday at 6:40 a.m. at G. Anaya and Second Street in Calexico City. Agents identified, through video surveillance, some packages that were thrown over the border fence from Mexico. A total of six packages of methamphetamine weighing 6.3 pounds were recorded, with an estimated value of $14,175.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security responsible for the management, control and protection of U.S. borders at official ports of entry.
