Although only 36% of the population in San Diego County is of Latino origin, they are unfortunately the community most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, accounting for 63% of the positive cases recorded in this location and at least 48% of the deaths from this virus.

This was reported by Consul Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez in an interview for San Diego Red, where he informed that based on this data, the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego has decided to incorporate into its facilities to perform coronavirus tests in this county.

"The consulate is a place that inspires confidence in the immigrant community. Migrants know that the Consulate is a source of safe, reliable, and relevant information in their daily lives, and for that reason, I want to think that offering covid testing at the Consulate is a way to build trust and make it easier for people of Mexican or immigrant origin to come here for testing," said the Consul.

This testing site, which will be installed at the Consulate, is sponsored by the San Diego County Health Agency.

Thus, interested persons will be able to attend this Consulate located at 1549 India St, starting on Monday, September 14, and subsequently every Monday indefinitely, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to a free test, without an appointment and regardless of their immigration status.

It is worth mentioning that you do not need to have symptoms to be a candidate for these tests, you just need to provide a phone number or an email for the County to follow up on your results and send them to you in a confidential manner.

According to Consul Carlos Gonzalez, in addition to their facilities these test sites can be found in other locations, which will be announced in the coming days along with their schedules. So far there are two confirmed test sites: San Luis Rey Church in Oceanside and St. Anthony in National City.

Therefore, if you are part of the Latino community that lives in this county, we invite you to come and get tested and above all to be aware of the social media of the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego, where they will announce the schedule and the remaining locations that will be part of this program.
