Through his Twitter account, the U.S. ambassador in Mexico, Christopher Landau, called attention to U.S. citizens who he pointed out for not respecting the restrictions implemented at the border crossings of Mexico and the American country as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 pandemic.

As we will remember, last weekend (August 21-23) only at the Baja California Port of entry to cross to the United States, users in social media reported waiting times of up to 9 hours.

In response, Christopher Landau mentioned: "This weekend there were very long lines at some of the land border crossings to enter the United States from Mexico because CPB is focusing its resources on facilitating ESSENTIAL travel. It appears that many U.S. citizens in the border region are not taking the restrictions seriously and are crossing in both directions for NON-EMERGENCY travel."

The measures implemented by CBP, to which the Ambassador refers to, are those recently announced last Friday, August 21, which allow for the reinforcement of crossings into the U.S. country only for essential activities, which is why it was decided to close car and pedestrian lanes, in addition to conducting secondary inspections of non-essential travelers.

Landau, considered this type of crossings, as an "irresponsible attitude" which "is aggravating the health crisis", so he said, "remember, the land border is open only for ESSENTIAL travel.
