More than 537 thousand foreigners are living in Mexico

The INM disclosed the data about the 134.5 million people that entered the country

The National Institute of Migration (INM), recorded during the first year of the current administration 537 thousand 699 foreign people residing in national territory, 58 percent more than the 338 thousand 901 of the year 2015.

When making the comparison during 2019, through a statement, INM said that of the more than 537 thousand foreign residents, 77 thousand correspond to people of American origin and 47 thousand of Venezuelan and Honduran nationality.

Regarding the migration flow, from January to December 2019, 39 million 500 thousand people, mostly foreign visitors, or 80 percent, of which 23 thousand, entered Mexico, by air, land or sea 483 were for work reasons; the rest for tourism, business or health activities, among other reasons.

Moreover, in the same period 486 thousand 625 immigration procedures were received, which are estimated to increase to 505 thousand at the end of 2019; record number in the last five years. From 2014 to 2019, 2 million 284 thousand 719 migrants were attended at INM offices.

The most recurring immigration procedures are: issuance of the Regional Visitor Card (TVR); regularization for humanitarian reasons; issuance of resident or renewal cards; issuance of immigration document by exchange; notification of change of address by residents; working visa authorization, among others.

In the last four years, 134.5 million people entered the country legally.

As part of the actions aimed at promoting trade and temporary employment in the southern border states, such as Chiapas, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Yucatan, the INM issued 76 thousand 620 Regional Visitor (TVR) cards this year. and 9 thousand 917 Border Worker Visitor cards, which adds up to 86 thousand 537, estimated to reach 90 thousand documents at the end of 2019.
