The name of TIJUANA was registered as an official trademark before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property by the City Council.

The head of the Legal Department of the Mayor's Office, Leonardo Martínez, explained that the "Tijuana" brand was registered with the file number 2018011, which establishes that the City Council is the owner, based on Article 87 of the Industrial Property Law. .

In addition to the name Tijuana, the shield or logo, and the city slogan "Aquí empieza la patria" was also a registered trademark, so that anyone who wishes to use it must request permission from the Municipal Government.

Martínez added that this procedure before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property will allow the Mayor's Office to defend the case when the name of Tijuana is used with disparaging purposes against it, as well as the brand, shield and slogan of the city.
