Omar Lopex films with Analogue equipment

Standard Fantastic Studios is pleased to announce that Omar Lopex has been awarded Bi National Filmmaker of the Year in the 2018 San Diego Film Awards, presented by Film Consortium of San Diego. The award honors filmmakers for “working on both sides of the border in an effort to bring our two nations closer together.”

Lopex’ current project, Ana, Who They Pulled Out of the River is a feature film written/directed by Lopex, with an all-female cast, shot on location in Tijuana, Mexico, on Black & White 16mm analog film. The project has fiscal sponsorship from the San Diego Art Institute and is currently in post-production.

More about the production:

-Internationally-renowned artist Hugo Crosthwaite created concept art, paintings for the film's props, and is hand-painting all the title credits in his inimitable Tijuana Bible chiaroscuro style.

-Received a grant from Avery-Tsui Foundation for principal photography.

-A cast and crew composed entirely of contemporary artists, writers and actors, from both sides of the border.

Omar Lopex (Writer/ Director) is a filmmaker based in San Diego, CA/Tijuana, B.C. MX. His work incorporates analog mediums (35mm film, 16mm film, wet-plate collodion photography, Polaroid film) and working with strangers to produce collaborative projects that tackle the topics of Poetry, Pretend, and Risk. Lopex’s films have screened at the La Jolla Historical Society, San Diego Underground Film Festival, the San Diego Art Institute, LOW Gallery, Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, San Diego Museum of Art, Oceanside Museum of Art, Santa Monica Museum of Art, Moxie Theatre, A Ship in the Woods, & For Your Art Beverly Hills.
