SAN YSIDRO.-During a weekend in late September, the final phase of the San Ysidro expansion and remodeling project will force the closure of all lanes heading into Mexico at the El Chaparral border crossing.

But, that won't be the only closure during the month. The General Service Administration (GSA) in the U.S. has announced that three lanes on the northbound side, after crossing the CBP inspection booths, will be closed during part of the evening, night and early morning commutes.

From 4:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., starting on Tuesday, September 12 and until Saturday 16, the three northbound lanes that merge onto the 5 Freeway on the east side will have to be closed temporarily.

If you are crossing the border on the eastern side during those times, you will have to head towards the western side of the secondary inspection area, as the lanes closest to Rail Court road and the Trolley station will be closed.

After the 16 and beginning on Monday, September 18 and until Saturday, December 30, the lanes in that same area will be closed from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

The entire inconvenience is part of the second (and last) phase of the renovation and expansion project at the Western Hemisphere's busiest land border crossing. Specifically, the work is needed to build the skybridge that will connect the new eastern pedestrian crossing building to the secondary inspection area.
