Great white herons from Central America visit Tijuana’s Parque de la Amistad

White egrets are currently visiting Tijuana

The Municipal System of Theme Parks of Tijuana (SIMPATT) recently posted that some unusual ducks known as fulica atra or common coot arrived in the city. Their main traits are a white frontal shield and white bills that contrast with their black plumage.

However, this was not the only surprise by SIMPATT, as a group of 20 migratory birds arrived at Parque de la Amistad (Friendship Park), with the highlight being the beautiful white herons from Central America.

“At Parque de la Amistad we are being visited by a group of 20 migratory birds, which are the great white herons (ardea alba) from Central America,” authorities stated on their official Facebook page.

They also shared some pictures of these beautiful birds. It should be noted that the ardea alba (white egret) is a partially migratory species that is located in several parts of the world, and one can see them in Mexico in almost every state.

It should also be noted that at some locations in the southern United States, their numbers have been decreasing due to loss of habitat, especially due to the deterioration of wetlands, increases in salinity, and invasion by other plants.
