As reported in this website, the Secretariat of Health of Baja California divided the epidemiological traffic light for COVID-19 in the State, due to the increase of infections in one of its municipalities, specifically in Mexicali, which as of this Thursday will go back to orange coloration, while the rest will remain in yellow.

With this, the territory of Mexicali will also have activity and capacity restrictions, which will be monitored by this agency, assured its director, Alonso Pérez Rico.

So far, Mexicali continues to increase its cases, going from 245 active cases to 287 yesterday, out of the 439 registered in the state. Tijuana went from 98 to 122 and Ensenada from 13 to 15. Rosarito reports seven active cases, Tecate four, San Felipe three and San Quintín one.

In addition to having the majority of these cases at the state level, this figure in Mexicali caused it to jump in one day from 13th to 9th place in the top 20 municipalities with the most active cases in Mexico.

In view of this, the Secretary of Health stated that if this trend continues, there will not only be restrictions, but also closures in the state capital, for which he urged its residents to follow the prevention measures and not to believe that the pandemic is over.

"If this trend continues, I want to be very clear, they will go into the red [light] ," he assured.

In the last 24 hours, Baja California presented 117 new cases of COVID-19, 71 of these belong to Mexicali, 39 to Tijuana, four to Ensenada, two to Tecate and one to Rosarito. In these same hours, 15 people died from this disease, five in Tijuana, five in Mexicali and five more in Ensenada.

Noting that Tijuana also showed a small increase in cases, Pérez Rico said that if the rise remains and Mexicali continues as it is now, it will not only be the beginning of the third wave of COVID-19 in the region, but it will change to orange traffic light and quickly to red.

Today the state accumulates 48 thousand and 22 confirmed cases and 8 thousand and 46 deaths.
