The municipal director of Civil Protection (PC), Eric Santillan Castillo, announced that during the Easter holiday period, camping will not be allowed on the beaches of Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has been going on for more than a year in the country.

In addition to such prohibition, the authority informed that only a 50% capacity will be allowed in the 11 Blue Flag beaches that remain in operation, likewise, with the help of members of the Security Board, Zofemat Los Cabos and the State Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Coepris), constant inspections will be carried out in the area in order to verify that the previously announced measures are being complied with.

It was reported that the Los Cabos beaches with the highest influx of people are: El Medrano, Las Viudas, Santa Maria, El Chileno, Palmilla, Acapulquito, Costa Azul, La Playa, La Ribera, El Surgidero and La Gaviota, so citizens were asked to take precautions and avoid frequenting places with large crowds.

Likewise, the opening hours at the beaches were reduced, being available to the general public from 10:00 to 18:00 hours, while for athletes it was extended from 6:00 to 18:00 hours, without any possibility of allowing overnight camps. There will also patrol along the Cabo del Este coastal route to make sure that people have indeed followed the instructions of the CP.

The decision is taken in order to stop a possible third wave of covid-19, since it is known that in Baja California Sur, one of the most popular activities during Easter Week is camping. The state currently has more than 27 thousand cases of COVID-19 and close to one thousand 228 deaths.
