Real Madrid 2-1 Everton: Madrid wins the first game of the night

Real Madrid advance to the championship game.

LOS ANGELES – Spanish giants Real Madrid win the first of the soccer double header at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The Spanish giants defeated Premier league side Everton 2-1 to advance to the Guinness International Champions Cup final in Miami.

Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo opened up the scoring for the Spanish team in the 9th minute after receiving a through ball, dribbling around American goalkeeper Tim Howard and shooting into an empty net.

The English side tried to push forward after the opening goal and seemed they had found an equalizer in the 29th minute when Sylvain Distin headed in a corner kick. But center referee waived off the goal calling a foul against Distin.

One minute later Real Madrid took advantage that some Everton players were still complaining about the decision and broke out in a fast counter attack. Ronaldo once again received a through ball, faced Howard and laid the ball off to Mesut Ozil who just had to tap the ball into the open goal.

In the second half Real Madrid kept their dominance over the English side and forced some quality saves from Tim Howard to keep the score close. And in the run of play on a fast counter attack Everton got a goal that brought them back into the match. Nikica Jelavic headed in a ball that bounced on the post and on the goalkeeper’s body before finding its way into the goal.

Both Real Madrid and Everton will now travel to Miami where the Spaniards will be fighting the championship of this friendly tournament while Everton will be playing for the third place finish. Both games are scheduled for Wednesday August 7.
