With Halloween just a few days away, Tijuana will most likely be a parade of endless costumes. However, regulations have been put in place that must be followed if you are to have a safe and calm festivity.
Though it is often thought that all costumes are allowed, the truth is that you can be fined if your outfit doesn't follow certain rules established by the Mexican government.
Regarding Tijuana, Baja California, authorities have recently authorized certain regulations in order to prevent situations that put people at risk and reduce chances of criminal behavior.
Does your costume have a mask? This is what you should know
This is the reason why using masks has been prohibited during Halloween celebrations in Tijuana, with a warning issued that people may face penalty or jail time.
According to authorities, violators could face fines from $1,085 to $3,257 pesos for using a mask. Refusal to pay will result in a 36-hour jail time.
These measures established in article 67 of the Regulation of Police and the Government of the City Hall of Tijuana were made to prevent robberies, thefts, and felonies by people using the masks and costumes that are usually worn in Halloween.
If you were planning on wearing a mask on October 31st, do not despair! You can still go to Avenida Revolución on Halloween night with your costume and mask as it will be allowed in moderation as long as it is not a threat to other attendees' safety.
It should be noted that masks and costumes are usually forbidden in Tijuana's public spaces. In fact, authorities recently carried out a special operation to guarantee compliance with this measure, which has also been implemented to prevent traffic accidents as some costumes can block your vision when driving.
At least 450 police officers and 200 support units will be deployed in several areas of the city to prevent violence and provide assistance so that these celebrations take place without any issues.
