Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the governor of Baja California, announced the “Embarazo Seguro, Bebé a Bordo” program, which contemplates a series of actions whose purpose is to incentivize people to get 4 prenatal consultations and a post-partum consultation so that all pregnant women and their babies get the proper prenatal care in order to guarantee their health.

The state governor explained that in the state’s several health centers 2,000 violet cards and wristbands will be delivered, which will allow women to control the appointments that they get and be singled out as beneficiaries.

Regarding this, the Secretary of Health of Baja California, José Adrián Medina Amarillas, explained that these actions are looking to eliminate maternal death and ensure the health of newborns, as 6,000 high risk pregnancies have been detected in Baja California.

The state official stated that these control consultations will allow the doctor to identify patients with diabetes, hypertension, obesity or preeclampsia, among other chronic degenerative diseases, and treat them so as to control them before the baby is born.

Medina Amarillas emphasized that this program is looking to provide special assistance to pregnant women who could be at risk, offering guidance regarding a healthy lifestyle, which includes a good diet and exercise.

As such, he recommends patients to go to their first consultation when they are three weeks pregnant and then every subsequent month after that. After the first trimester of the pregnancy, they should go every 15 days, especially if they are at high risk with a preexisting disease.
