Taco with pepperoni pizza flavor? Flavors at “Tacos Kamikaze” confuse in Tijuana

This taco is called "El Gober Precioso"

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos Kamikaze” located at Blvd. De Los Cochimíes Río Tijuana 3a. Etapa. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a taco called “El Gober Precioso” priced at $4.16 dollars ($75 pesos) and a shrimp taco with cheese crust priced at $6.11 dollars (110 pesos).

Gober Precioso Taco

This taco has marlin, shrimp, avocado, cheese, and three corn homemade tortillas. The first thing to note about this taco is the three tortillas; Chef Danny doesn’t know if this is how this taco is normally served or if it was a mistake, but he did say that the taco felt heavy.

The outer tortilla was fried with butter while the inner ones were soft. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny was surprised because the flavor was very similar to pepperoni pizza due to the cheese and the tomato sauce in which the protein was cooked that was completely lost in the taco as both the shrimp and marlin couldn’t be tasted. Though the flavor wasn’t bad, it is not what one expects from a marlin gobernador taco as the tomato sauce was seasoned way too much. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.9.

Price: $4.16 dollars ($75 pesos)

Shrimp Taco with Cheese Crust

This taco has shrimp, cheese crust, mayonnaise dressing with chili pepper, avocado, and it is served on two handmade corn tortillas. Before he tried it, our host was surprised by this taco’s amazing size; when he grabbed it, he said it was a “heavy duty” taco.

After he took his first bite, Chef Danny decided to add a little bit of lime as he thought that the taco was a little salty. When he tried it again, he said that it was missing that sour touch. Unlike the previous taco, the flavor of the shrimp sautéed with butter and garlic salt was very present (which made it somewhat salty but tolerable). It also had a lot of shrimp on it. The cheese crust also had a lot of flavor, which is why this taco gets a rating of 8.6.

Price: $6.11 dollars ($110 pesos)
