FGE is asked to speed up process regarding case of violence against woman and her son

Authorities are following up on a physical violence case against a woman and her 7-year-old child

The head of the Center for the Justice of Women (CEJUM), Magdalena Bautista, asked state attorney general, Ricardo Iván Carpio to directly intervene regarding a case of violence against a mother and her 7-year-old son who are currently in a high risk situation due to their abuser.

The official stated that, since January 6, 2023, the state government, through CEJUM, has assisted the victim through the multidisciplinary assistance area (Social, Legal, and Psychological Work), and determined that this was a high-risk situation; this was assessed thanks to the Risk Prediction Scale.

Subsequently, legal accompaniment and assistance was provided in order to present a pre-report before FGE, with number 19165. It should be mentioned that the victim showed distrust to the authorities since she had already submitted a report to FGE in 2019 in Rosarito. According to the victim’s witness, authorities did not act promptly and the file went missing.

In addition, on January 10, 2023, the woman went to CEJUM to inform that she had been contacted by FGE who told her that her report had been processed with unique case number 0205-2023-00084, through the Specialized Agency on Sexual and Gender Crimes of the Regional Agency in Playas de Rosarito. The department scheduled an appointment on January 13, where CEJUM personnel was present.

However, due to the victim’s context and the lack of promptness with the investigation, a request was made to FGE to speed up the process of this case and to provide aid and accompaniment to this victim.

Lastly, Magdalena Bautista reiterated her message to all women who are victims of violence to remind them that they are not alone and that they can go to these assistance and protection agencies and services provided by CEJUM where they will be listened to and accompanied during their report and access to justice processes.
