Rain warning issued for Tijuana from Tuesday, December 27 to New Year’s Day

It is expected that moderate to heavy rain arrives in the region

Rains in the region decided they wanted to say goodbye to 2022 and everything seems to indicate that they will begin on Tuesday, December 27, with chances of moderate to heavy torrential rain in Baja California.

The State Coordination of Civil Protection (CEPC) warned the population to take preventive measures as a new cold front will begin on Tuesday evening; likewise, humidity is expected in the region.

According to CEPC coordinator, Salvador Cervantes Hernández, it could cause conditions that allow for the possible presence of moderate to heavy rain starting on Tuesday evening and the early morning/morning of Wednesday, December 28, with the possibility of them continuing moderately to lightly until Sunday, January 1, 2023.

The Secretary of the Interior of Baja California, Catalino Zavala Márquez, highlighted that for the administration led by the Governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda, it is a priority to inform the population about recommendations regarding possible rains.

He explained that rain forecast systems indicated that they could show greater intensity in Tijuana, Playas de Rosarito, Ensenada, and Tecate, and a moderate to light intensity in Mexicali and San Quintín. In the municipality of San Felipe there is no data that could indicate chances of rain so far.

These rains could be accompanied by a new drop in temperature and winds, which could be more pronounced in the high-altitude and mountainous areas of the state”, stated the coordinator of Civil Protection of Baja California.

It is recommended to review your home’s condition, and in case rain can get into your house, one needs to turn off electrical energy. If it’s necessary to drive, do it carefully and never, under any circumstances, try to cross water currents, whether on a vehicle or walking. In case you have an accident or witness one, you should report it to 911 so that authorities can arrive as soon as possible, Cervantes concluded.
