Adobada taco by “Tacos El Gordo” in Tijuana surprises due to its great flavor

The Mexican husk tomato and bird’s beak chile salsa was an excellent addition for this taco

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos El Gordo” located at José Cerda 16, Buena Vista, Burocrata Ruiz Cortinez, 22406. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a carne asada taco and an adobada taco, both priced at $1.57 dollars ($30 pesos).

Carne Asada Taco

This taco has carne asada (grilled beef), cilantro, guacamole, huevona sauce, and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. Chef Danny said that the tortilla was medium-sized and it was easy to know that it was handmade due to its thickness and shape.

When he tried it, he also stated that its flavor also lets you know how it was made, as both the texture and flavor is different. Though there was a little bit of marinade detected in the meat, it was somewhat dry as if it had been left on the grill for a long time. In addition, it had a lot of skin which needed to be chewed a lot. The huevona sauce did not add any flavor. The thing that did help the taco was the guacamole, which was pure avocado flesh. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.9.

Adobada Taco

This taco has adobada meat, onion, cilantro, cilantro dressing with avocado, red sauce, and it is served on two packaged corn tortillas. The first thing to note about this taco, before being tried, is that the meat’s adobo had a very good color.

When he took his first bite, Chef Danny stated that the color was an indication that it had a lot of flavor and that is precisely what it had. In addition, the meat had been cut in very thin slices and it was crunchy on the outside and juicy inside. Though the tortillas were from a store-bought package, they had a good flavor and texture. The Mexican husk tomato and bird’s beak chile salsa created a good contrast. The one thing that our host did not like was the dressing which was somewhat sweet. When he took his second bite, he noticed that the taco tasted better where there was no salsa. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.0.
