“Tacos a Vapor La Franquicia” in Tijuana gets a 7 due to their neutral flavor

Neither the meat nor the salsa nor the tortillas had an outstanding flavor

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos a Vapor La Franquicia” located at Calzada del Tecnológico 15300 Plaza Universidad, Tomas Aquino; next to UABC Otay Campus. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a shredded meat taco and a rib taco with charred sauce both priced at $1.7 dollars ($31 pesos).

Rib Taco

This taco has beef rib, purple onion, Mexican husk tomato sauce, and is served on two white corn tortillas. The first thing that Chef Danny noticed was the tortillas and their color as they are drenched in the tacos’ grease, so that they have the flavor essence from the steamed tacos.

When he tried it, Chef Danny said that this taco was somewhat thin. Neither the stew nor the meat flavor nor the salsa could be tasted, due to the way everything is mixed. The tortillas were very subtle and the onion had been pickled with vinegar and lemon. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.8.

Price: $1.7 dollars ($31 pesos)

Shredded Meat Taco

This taco has shredded meat, charred green salsa, and is served on two white corn tortillas. Before he tried it, Chef Danny said that the tortillas (which were also drenched in grease) had a very baggy consistency, as if they had been left alone with the tacos for a while.

After he took his first bite, he realized that the taco was a little more flavorful than the previous one. The salsa added a good touch of sourness. However, he claimed that it was quite a neutral taco regarding its flavor. This is why it gets a rating of 7.1.

Price: 1.7$ dollars ($31 pesos)
