75-cent adobada taco by “Tacos La Negrita” in Tijuana fails due to its tortillas and watery guacamole

Chef Danny tried both a carne asada taco and an adobada taco

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos La Negrita” at Boulevard Las Américas, Colonia 20 de Noviembre. On this occasion he tried two tacos: an adobada taco priced at $0.75 dollars ($15 pesos) and a carne asada taco priced at $1 dollar ($20 pesos).

Carne Asada Taco

This taco has carne asada (grilled beef), onion, cilantro, guacamole, green sauce, and is served on two packaged corn tortillas. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny was surprised with the salsa since it had been ground raw and the jalapeño taste was very intense.

Though the tortillas were from a store-bought package, they were hydrated quite well and they didn’t feel very dry. The meat was only seasoned with salt and pepper and the guacamole ended up being watery guacamole. It should be noted that the size of this taco is similar to traditional adobada tacos due to the tortilla used. This is why this taco gets a rating of 5.5.

Adobada Taco

This taco has adobada meat, onion, coriander, watery guacamole, red sauce, and is served on two packaged corn tortillas. The salsa that seemed very spicy wasn’t really that hot. It had a nice flavor similar to bird beak’s chili pepper and the tomato had the biggest presence in the taste.

Though the meat had a good flavor and had good achiote touches, the fact that it had been griddled and cut into squares modified its flavor. The salsa was one of the stars of this taco, but the watery guacamole did not add anything to this dish. In addition, Chef Danny stated that if the tortilla had been a little more fried, it would have been ideal as, since it was store bought, it was a little dry. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.9.
