“El Poblano Taco Shop” fails in Tijuana due to their very dry tortillas and watery guacamole

In one of the tacos, there was a factor that helped it a lot

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “El Poblano Taco Shop” located at Blvd Federico Benítez López 15033. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a carne asada taco priced at $1.7 dollars ($34 pesos) and a tripe taco priced at $2.25 dollars ($45 pesos).

Carne Asada Taco

This taco has carne asada (grilled beef), watery guacamole, onion, cilantro, and is served on two store-bought corn tortillas. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny highlighted, and not positively, that both the tortillas and the meat were dry. The protein was only half-dried and it lost its flavor, humidity, and it was hard to chew.

The meat only had salt and pepper and it didn’t have any type of marinade. Chef Danny claimed that these aforementioned factors caused the meat to be leathery and chewy. He also noticed that the tortillas were lacking in humidity. This is why this taco gets a rating of 5.6.

Price: $1.7 dollars ($34 pesos)

Tripe Taco

This taco has tripe, watery guacamole, onion, coriander, and is served on two packaged corn tortillas and, due to this, they have a similar size to the ones used for adobada tacos.

When he took his first bite, Chef Danny said that, though the tortilla had the same result as the previous taco, the tripe was very good. It was at its ideal point where it was crispy outside but soft on the inside. He stressed that getting that kind of tripe is complicated. Dry tortillas and watery guacamole are factors that tend to lower the score, however, the protein really did help this taco. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.4.

Price: $2.25 dollars ($45 pesos)
