Mobility transformation program in Mexicali is making progress, announces Governor Marina del Pilar

The RESPIRA program, promoted by Governor Marina del Pilar, will eliminate the high level of traffic congestion in southern Mexicali

Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda revealed new information about the RESPIRA program, whose goal is to improve traffic mobility in Mexicali and raise the quality of life for thousands of citizens in southern Mexicali by restoring the expansion of Gómez Morín Boulevard.

“This project at Gómez Morín Boulevard has an investment of 162 million pesos. It will allow greater traffic capacity because we will go from one-way lane to three, considerably reducing traveling times with greater safety in the area, as well as a main median strip. This project also includes street lighting, vertical and horizontal signs at Calzada Anáhuac and Calzada Héctor Terán Terán,” the governor said.

She stated that this infrastructure project will reduce traffic congestion in the area in order to aid the growth that has happened in southern Mexicali. This will be done through several actions such as building pavement structures to bring greater and better traffic safety measures to thousands of drivers that travel daily in this area.

“Our RESPIRA program is a model that combines urban development, the environment, and public spaces. A comprehensive public work program that imagines more dynamic, sustainable, and efficient cities, friendlier for pedestrians, cyclists, and people with disabilities,” the state governor said.

Ávila Olmeda stated that on this boulevard new neighborhoods, residential areas, malls, and schools have been built, which is why it will benefit more than 180,000 people. This is part of a permanent promotion of a tactical urbanism that is being developed with public funds that have been obtained thanks to specific savings by the current administration.

For his part, the Secretary of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territory Redesign, Arturo Espinoza Jaramillo stated that supplementary work will also be carried out which includes rain drainage systems and unblocking and maintenance of pipes, as well as building green areas on the road’s main median strip.

It should be noted that state authorities expect this project to be completed in May 2023.
