“Cachanilla” taco by “Asadero El Tecolote” in Tijuana impresses due to its great size

It was served on two flour tortillas

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Asadero El Tecolote” located at Abelardo L. Rodríguez, Zona Río. On this occasion he tried two tacos: an al pastor taco priced at $2 dollars ($40 pesos) and a Cachanilla taco priced at $3.5 dollars ($70 pesos).

Cachanilla Taco

This taco has carne asada (grilled beef), guacamole, charred sauce, California pepper slices, cheese crust, and it is served on two flour tortillas. The first thing to highlight about this taco is its great size as well as the amount of ingredients served due to the tortillas.

Chef Danny stated that the tortillas had a good lard taste, which means they were probably made here. The cheese flavor and touches engulf the rest of the ingredients. In the meat, he was able to taste the coal as well as the salt and pepper with which it was cooked. The chili pepper slices had a soft texture which meant they weren’t hard to chew. The only ingredient that was a missing a “punch” was the sauce which was not a highlight at all. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.6.

Price: $3.5 dollars ($70 pesos)

Al Pastor Taco

This taco has al pastor meat, onion, cilantro, guacamole, charred sauce, and is served on a corn tortilla. At first, our host said that the meat had a good color which usually means that it has a great flavor.

When he took his first bite, Chef Danny said that he liked that the taco was served only with avocado flesh and that its flavor didn’t alter any others. The meat’s adobo was quite good. Something interesting about this taco is that it was presented as an “al pastor” taco, but its salty flavor are more similar to what in the rest of the country is known as “adobada”. The tortilla looked specially made for this taqueria since it did not look like packaged tortillas at all. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.3.

Price: $2 dollars ($40 pesos)
