U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has completely suspended the current construction of the border wall at binational Friendship Park surroundings.

This suspension is looking to create communication and interaction between the parties interested in this project so that they can discuss the reconstruction plans for this binational area.

For their part, the CBP is committing to preserve access to Friendship Park and, once the construction is finalized, they also commit to open the park gates at least two days minimum per month.

Chris Magnus, CPB commissioner, states that they received concerns about this current planned project, which is why it is important that the current community binational plans are revealed to the public.

I hope to continue conversations with the community about this project during this suspension.

The binational Friendship Park was inaugurated in 1971 by former US president Richard Nixon’s wife. This geographical area represents a meeting point for families divided by the immigration phenomena of the last few decades. Nowadays, intense border patrolling makes interaction between both sides of the border impossible.
