The Government of Baja California through the Physical Education Infrastructure Institute (INIFE) restored 30 schools in Ensenada and 10 in San Quintin that had been vandalized during the pandemic.

The objective was to improve educational facilities for Baja Californian children and teenagers, stated INIFE director, Javier Ignacio Urbalejo Cinco.

He highlighted that through instructions given by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda the restorations of these primary, secondary, and high school facilities are being undertaken, with 16 of them already being used in in-person classes.

He also mentioned that the restoration in schools consists of renovating electrical installations, and replacement of stolen cables, broken windows, fences and water and electric installations.

”Schools were vandalized in the pandemic because they were closed. But another reason is that these schools are in popular neighborhoods with high insecurity rates," said Urbalejo Cinco.

He stated that there are facilities with extreme vandalism, such as Felipe Carrillo Puerto school in Colonia Lomitas, where the roofs of classrooms, electric cables, windows, metallic fences, water pipes, and water tanks were stolen.

Lastly, the director of INIFE stated that there are facilities that are still being restored but are adequate to hold in-person classes. These schools are: Ejido Nacionalista school, Indigenous Kindergarten Nueva Creación La Escondida, Cámara Junior, Ignacio Allende, Benito Juárez, Adolfo Ramírez Méndez, Gabriela Mistral, La Patria es Primero T.M, Cleotilde González García, Joséfina del Río, Rafael Ramírez, Fco Gabilondo Soler, Jaime Sabines, Esc. Sec Gral 4 Javier Mejía Z., Juan Escutia, El niño Artillero, Misiones de Baja California, and Lázaro Cárdenas.
