September and October will not be the months in which the long-awaited border reopening will take place, since once again the U.S. authorities have announced that the restrictions will continue at least until October 21.

This despite the fact that the northern border cities of Mexico have registered fewer cases of coronavirus in the last weeks, due to the fact that 80% of the eligible citizens have already been vaccinated, as informed this morning by the Secretary of Health of Baja California, Alonso Pérez Rico.

In fact, Pérez Rico affirmed that the U.S. government could relax the restrictions with Mexico if it sees that the effective reproduction rate of the virus and if the percentage of infected people per 100,000 inhabitants decreases drastically, successfully supported by vaccination.

However, this same day the United States informed that some of the measures will be relaxed for international travelers who are fully vaccinated, mainly in the airline industry. It is worth mentioning that Mexicans may continue to enter the neighboring country by air, although there is always the warning that they may be denied entry in case the CBP officer decides to do so.

Likewise, Canada has already relaxed measures with the United States since August 9. As for Mexico, everything seems to indicate that restrictions will remain in place, since the fourth wave of coronavirus is expected to arrive in the region in November, which would prevent, once again, this reopening.
