A few days ago the Baja California Department of Health informed about a pilot program it was conducting with the U.S. authorities directly, with the objective of donating vaccines against COVID-19.

Although at that time nothing had been finalized, this morning the Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico, confirmed that a shipment of Johnson & Johnson vaccine will arrive in the state today as part of this process.

On the other hand, other Baja California authorities added: "We are ready to receive it but the delivery protocol of a vaccine or a health issue from the U.S. has many limitations, but we believe that today we will obtain it, and we will continue until we obtain more vaccines".

Pérez Rico did not provide details of how many vaccines could arrive, but in the beginning there was talk of at least 15 thousand.

In pilot´s first phase, the J&J vaccine will be destined to people over 18 years of age who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 for the first time and who reside in Mexicali, the Mexicali Valley, and San Felipe.

"We are planning to do the same mechanisms in the coastal area: Tijuana, Ensenada and Rosarito; for now everything is being programmed to be in the valley, specifically in the city of Mexicali," said the Secretary at the time.
