Karla Ruiz Macfarland took office in February and since then Tijuana residents have forgotten the conflicts generated by her predecessor and have only heard positive things about her administration, among which the mayor's efforts to promote international tourism in the city stand out.

Tijuana has registered a 180% growth in investments in the second quarter of 2021. This is excellent news because while 64.48 percent is domestic investment, 35.51 percent is international. These numbers exceed last year's and represent an increase of 37.7 percent.

Likewise, another effort to strengthen international tourism is that actions have been initiated to equip the Tijuana Tourist Police with bicycles and uniforms, since this group is in charge of providing assistance to international visitors, mostly from the United States.

But the relations with Americans, particularly those with San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, are not the only ones she keeps nurtured in the international arena, because as soon as she arrived at the municipal presidency she held a virtual meeting with the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Tijuana, Yu Bo, with whom, as she informed, she shares the objective of strengthening both nations.

Likewise, as part of its 60-day plan, the Ruiz Macfarland government shared with the Korean association ASEZ WAO Group, the mission to reforest Morelos Park, also known for being the lungs of the city.

On the other hand, regarding medical tourism, the mayor of Tijuana met with officials of this sector, where representatives of the medical clusters were also present. The purpose of the meeting was to prepare for the imminent reopening of the border and to strengthen security strategies for the benefit of national and foreign tourism.

As part of the plan for the reactivation of the economy, the Municipal Government in coordination with the Tourism and Convention Committee of Tijuana (Cotuco) planned the "Expo Turismo Tijuana y la Mega Región" exhibition that took place this month and where they invited not only foreigners, but also Baja Californians themselves to get to know the wonders of our State.
