They sing "las mañanitas" to Tijuana at Teniente Guerrero Park

To celebrate the city's 132nd anniversary, Tijuana's City Hall organized different activities

As every year, the "mañanitas" to Tijuana were sung at Teniente Guerrero Park, in a celebration where the 132 years that the city has been through were remembered, accompanied by the mariachi "Arriba Jalisco" and by Tijuana authorities, such as the municipal president, Karla Patricia Ruiz Macfarland, special guests and citizens.

During the event, held on the evening of Saturday, July 10, Ruiz Macfarland called on everyone who lives in Tijuana to take ownership of it, love it, feel rooted in it and take care of it so that it continues to be one of the most special cities in the world.

"It is a city that gives a lot. We must embrace it and honor the deep-rootedness that many of us have, no matter if they come for one or more years. We must love it," said the mayor. Accompanied by relatives of the heroes who defended the city in 1911, she toured the photographic exhibit with images of the first families that settled in Tijuana, such as the Ruiz, Fitch, Arnaiz, Acevedo, Nonaka, Ramos, Hierro de la Vega, Fimbres, Baloyan and Pastor Ramos.

Afterwards, Ruiz Macfarland proceeded to cut the cake, at which time she took the opportunity to express that as a child she never thought of being mayor, however, her commitment to make Tijuana a better city is firm, sure and from the heart.

The celebrations to Tijuana, which began on July 2nd, with the unveiling of the plaque in honor of the writer Federico Campbell, will extend throughout the month, closing with the presentation of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, on July 31st, in the facilities of the Federal High School Lázaro Cárdenas.

The songs to the city preceded the Civic Ceremony in Commemoration of Tijuana's 132nd anniversary, and later continued with the free concert by Matute. Wristbands for this event are still available at Chevron gas stations and Farmacias Roma. It is a requirement to present proof of vaccination against COVID-19 and an official ID, so only people over 18 years old will be allowed to enter.
