Tijuana Mayor Karla Ruiz strengthens tourism in the city

From uniforms for the tourist police to an improvement in foreign investment, Karla Ruiz Macfarland shows support for tourism in the region

There is no doubt that since Karla Ruiz Macfarland became mayor of Tijuana, some sectors seem to have taken the direction they should have taken since the Morena administration started in the region.

Under Ruiz Macfarland's leadership, Tijuana has reported 180% of national and foreign investments. Likewise, there is less unemployment and the municipality has positioned itself with the highest percentage in the employment occupation rate, having registered 98 percent.

On the other hand, the Tijuana City Hall is beginning to focus on tourist activity, which as a border city, is essential for commerce. In fact, this has been reflected in the IGAE Global Indicator of Economic Activity conducted by INEGI, which indicated a 3.1 increase in commerce sector activities in March alone.

The Secretary of Economic Development (Sedeti), Gabriel Camarena Salinas attributed these percentages to the actions implemented by Ruiz Macfarland such as the Rapid Opening Notice; the Rapid Business Opening System (SARE); the Labor Exchange and more.

Likewise, efforts have been made to provide equipment to the Tijuana Tourist Police, as they are in charge of providing assistance to international visitors, mostly Americans; just last week 49 T-shirts with official logos were donated, as well as eight bicycles.

However, although Tijuana's traffic lights allow for a relaxation of sanitary measures, the City Hall has implemented measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus among tourists, merchants and locals, so not all places have 100% of their capacity.
