Tijuana advances in its economic recovery after the pandemic

The different commercial sectors have shown a gradual and constant economic increase

The Secretary of Economic Development (Sedeti), Gabriel Camarena Salinas, acknowledged that the economic recovery of the sectors affected by the pandemic in Tijuana has increased in a gradual and constant manner, which translates into positive growth for the family economy of Tijuana residents.

According to the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE), conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), during March 2021, at a national level, tertiary activities corresponding to the commerce and services sector, presented an increase of 3.1% compared to the previous month in the same year.

In turn, primary activities, corresponding to agriculture, fishing and hunting, increased 1.4%, while secondary activities, such as construction, mining and manufacturing, increased 0.7%.

The head of Sedeti highlighted the significant progress of some sectors. At the same time, despite the fact that the international crossing remains under a mobility restriction, only granted to those considered essential workers, the Agile Crossing program of the XXIII Municipality of Tijuana has shown a recovery of the sector, since in the month of April 14 thousand and 31 passes were issued. Therefore, in the monthly comparison there is an increase of 13%.

Finally, Camarena Salinas highlighted the actions implemented by the municipal president, Karla Patricia Ruiz Macfarland, focused on boosting the economic growth of the different sectors that make up the city, through the programs promoted by the City Hall, such as the Rapid Opening Notice; the Rapid Business Opening System (SARE); the Labor Exchange, among others.
