The COVID-19 pandemic is still not over in Baja California and the increase of cases, although gradual, continues to affect the largest municipalities in the State, so the yellow traffic light will continue next week, confirmed the Secretary of Health, Alonso Perez Rico.

In the last 24 hours, 71 new cases were registered, of which 35 were reported in Tijuana, 31 in Mexicali, two in San Quintin, one in Ensenada, one in Tecate and one in Rosarito. During the same hours, there were also four deaths, three in the state capital and one in the border city.

With these figures, 47 thousand 431 positive cases have been accumulated, most of them in Mexicali (17 thousand 990), Tijuana (17 thousand 249) and Ensenada (6 thousand 867). Regarding deaths, there are 7 thousand 964, most of this total also occurred in these municipalities, although Tijuana leads the list (3 thousand 576), followed by Mexicali (2 thousand 951) and in third place Ensenada (1 thousand and 82).

According to the Secretary's report, Mexicali residente are the ones who are losing the battle against COVID-19 the most, since in addition to the above, it has the highest incidence of cases at the state level, at 19.09 per 100,000 inhabitants.

It is even higher than Imperial County and San Diego County in California, where the incidence is 9.90 and 5, respectively.

Mexicali also has the highest number of active cases, with 205 of the 323 cases registered in the state. The rest are distributed as follows: 86 in Tijuana, 16 in Ensenada, six in Tecate, five in Rosarito, four in San Quintin and one in San Felipe. Therefore, Perez Rico once again assured that the state capital will be the epicenter of the third wave of coronavirus in the region.
