Mexicali returns to the top 20 municipalities with more active cases in Mexico

The state capital also closes the year with the highest incidence and highest number of new cases for COVID-19 in Baja California

Mexicali closes 2020 with an unpleasant context due to the COVID-19 pandemic, since this municipality returned to the top 20 of Mexico's municipalities with the most active cases, after ranking 18th.

As of this Thursday morning, the state capital has 349 active cases of the 867 registered in Baja California. In addition, the incidence rate of active cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the state is 33.65 in Mexicali.

According to Health Secretary Alonso Pérez Rico, in the last 24 hours 219 new cases were reported, 107 of them in the municipality of Mexicali. With these figures Mexicali adds up to 13 thousand 940 positive cases out of the 33 thousand 219 in the region.

"We are going to close the year with the entire working class with more cases (confirmed)," said Pérez Rico.

In the case of people who lost their lives due to COVID-19 in Baja California, which is 5 thousand 410, 2 thousand 188 were registered in Mexicali, and 2 thousand 337 were in Tijuana.

The Secretary of Health confirmed that Baja California will continue under red next week.
