"Health and Wellness Tourism 2020-2021" will allow tourists to identify Tijuana as a safe place

Several tours will be distinguished with the recognition "Tourism of Health and Wellness 2020" allowing to identify them as safe places

With the objective of informing and raising awareness among the population of Tijuana about the preventive measures against COVID-19 in the city and the state, the Secretariat of Sustainable Economy and Tourism (SEST), Baja Health Cluster (BHC), the Committee of Tourism and Conventions of Tijuana (Cotuco), as well as the Council of Development of Tijuana (CDT) joined efforts to initiate the campaign "Tourism of Health and Wellness 2020-2021".

This initiative will place in the border city at least 35 billboards, which promote care for the current coronavirus pandemic, in addition to providing various tours the recognition of "Health and Wellness Tourism 2020", which will project, not only to them but to the city, as a safe place to visit, especially those who travel for medical tourism.

This type of tourism has achieved the visit of foreigners, who by being in Tijuana support local consumption.

Only in 2019, 2.8 million people arrived to this municipality of Baja California in order to be attended by specialists, dental, bariatric and plastic surgery services were the most requested, according to the president of Baja Health Cluster, Ricardo Vega Montiel.

In addition, despite the pandemic, medical tourism continued to operate, decreasing only between 15 to 20 percent of the people served, so this campaign is intended that tourists continue to recognize Tijuana as the capital of medical tourism thanks to its quality of service.

"This campaign of putting up signs in the city is also a recognition of these doctors, of these companies that have made an investment and that people know they are coming to a safe destination. The theme of the certificate that we are giving them is this seal as a guarantee so that when people go to a clinic or a business they identify that it is a place that has been verified through the Ministry of Health and by the Ministry of Sustainable Economy and Tourism," explained the secretary of SEST, Ivette Casillas.
