Opium poppy will now be legal

This drug will now be used for medicinal purpose in Mexico

The next Minister of the Interior, Olga Sanchez Cordero, said that the legal use of opium poppy for medicinal purposes is being pushed forward for revision of the established regulation by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

“We have had several meetings with the United Nations. The answer is yes”, she stated.

Sanchez Cordero welcomed the proposal by Salvador Cienfuegos the Secretary of National Defense, in relation to the legalization of poppy for medicinal purposes.

“It was a very good news for me, the declaration of General Cienfuegos”, Sanchez said.

After being interviewed at the end of the establishment of the Committee of the Belisario Dominguez Medal of Honor by the Mexican Senate, the Senator of the MORENA political party stated that opium poppy will be fostered solely and exclusively for manufacture of pharmaceuticals.

Therewith, Mexico will now have a clear path for legal modifications that will allow medical use of this drug, just as marijuana on June 2017.

On the other hand, future Head of Ministry of the Interior (SEGOB) stated that a meeting will be held this upcoming Monday with the appointed Minister of Public Safety, Alfonso Durazo, to determine whether the peacekeeping forums will be rescheduled or completed through an online platform.
